Employee Wellness

Reporting Incidents and Return-to-Work

  • Educate all employees that the credit union has a specific process to ensure that the injured worker receives proper medical care with the goal of returning to work
  • Encourage employees to report all injuries or illnesses immediately
  • The sooner an incident is reported, the lower the cost of the claim and the sooner the employee returns to work, according to research from The Hartford
  • Investigate incidents to determine possible causes and solutions to prevent similar incidents
  • Commit to making meaningful transitional work assignments — e.g., modifying workstations, restructuring job tasks, offering scheduling flexibility — to assist with return-to-work efforts

Safety Meeting Tips

  • Regardless of the size or scope, safety meetings should fit comfortably into workers’ schedules
  • Empower workers to become better problem-solvers and decision‑makers
  • Employee involvement is critical. Use safety meetings to cultivate leadership skills
  • Identify, discuss, and correct workplace hazards via workplace safety analyses and inspections
  • Discuss safety and wellness procedures and philosophy. Look for ways to keep employees actively engaged
  • More frequent, shorter meetings can be successful. Consider holding quick five or ten-minute department talks or huddles periodically to discuss office safety
  • Account for the season of the year and weather conditions in your area

They Said It

Safety meetings don’t have to be boring! Add something unusual like a question, quiz, or activity to the discussion mix to spur interest and engagement. Encourage each employee to be prepared to identify a specific problem. Everyone wants to be a problem-solver.

A careful selection of footwear by employees can significantly help reduce the risks of slipping and falling. Many organizations have even opted to offer footwear program discounts like Shoes for Crews.
